Rod a demobbed Navy officer finds himself alone in a new flat he bought for married life with a girl who left him for another man. As a background to this he joins a small local sailing club and finds a friend with another bachelor called Bill. Lonely and frustrated he falls in with Rose a rich nymphomaniac who owns a large luxury yacht. While she is sexy, demanding and beautiful she is dominated by her sadistic Captain who she and Rob have to avoid, Her boat the Jezebel, under the influence of the Captain is used for arms smuggling while she shares in the profit from the trade he is the mastermind and demands sexual rewards from her but because of his rough and crude way his advances are not enjoyed. It is only Rob and Bill's discovery of a buoy off shore that makes Rob suspicious of Jezebel's real purpose and leads to eventually tell his worries to the police. They persuade Rob to join the crew as Dan her captain has left and Rose is in need of a replacement, not only does Rob's naval experience and his sexual performance attract her but makes it easy for Rob to join her team. Following the story now leads to a number of experiences for Rob that make up the heart of the book. It is set against the love of a young girl for Rob who as she grows up and suffers his belief that she is no more to him than a charming schoolgirl but as she matures his interest grows a he falls in love with her. This would seem perfect except that he is still on board Jezebel and in mortal danger
