The Moonstone! Jo thinks it's silly to die in a cave; To fall off a mountain isn't so brave; But adventure to call at the grim waterfall, Lost in the Mountain; lost in a cave. Diane knows the Moonstone there to be found; Beneath the old waterfall far underground, But who'll find the path through terror and wrath, There, far away on the Enemy's ground? Out onto the valley of ledges and ditches, Climbing on ropes; take care with the hitches! Into the cave so solemn and grave; Come! Let us go and visit the witches! Jo knows the monsters are getting too bold, There in the cavern treacherous and old, He knows the way though deep danger lay; On looking it over his heart goes cold. But where is the Moonstone? Where must it go? In evening light of pale moonlight to glow, Finding the Stone; are they alone? Or is there a friend to whom they can go? They've found the trail; it leads to the sea, Across the high land to a perilous lea High above hedges on stony ledges On to the Moonstone! At last to be free! The Head girl thinks it's silly to climb That needle mountain; the way is sublime, But the battle is stiff there on the cliff, Will they get there with the Moonstone in time?
