A security guard, Marvin Vernon, happens across a rabbit's foot. Since he's not a believer in luck he tries to throw it away, quickly realizing he can't. Then he hears a voice in his head claiming to be the rabbit's foot. It makes him an offer: He has to do whatever it tells him, but in return it will make him rich. What ensues is a journey that carries the main character all over America and through the often perverse and cruel mind of the rabbit's foot, and to keep his end of the bargain Marvin Vernon will do things he never thought himself capable of along the way.
