Their jump to Salem Village 1692 was intended to be for three days. Three weeks has passed and the world has not heard from them. Their food supply exhausted, they are forced to live off the land with possibly hostile native tribes nearby. Then when they make the decision to chance return - severely underpowered and risk being lost forever - they do the unthinkable - they scuttle the control room pod leaving it behind somewhere in the past. That forced decision holds serious consequences if The Network can't locate it and bring it back.
