Hindu in America
Anil K Hingwe
A first ever study of the continuation of Hindu Traditions in the U. S. based on interviews of over one hundred first and second generation immigrants. The interviews delve into respondents' religious/spiritual beliefs, practices and approaches they took for preserving the tradition. Unlike other religions of the world, Hindu religion does not have a single prescriptive book or a path. As a result the Hindu tradition is intensely personal and can be based on the person's geographical origin in India. It is difficult to continue these practices after immigrating to a new country. Author recommends a path for Hindu immigrants to continue their religious and philosophical tradition even when raising their children and grandchildren in another country.
