The Dream: a belief that anyone, regardless of race, status, or class, can attain his or her own version of success or upward mobility within American societyThe Lie: the idea that the "American dream" was designed to include Black people Systemic racism, built into the fabric of society, has kept this dream out of the reach of most Black Americans for centuries. Kween Yakini's poetry will highlight the systemic racism, which many deny exists, is alive and well. The effects have been constant, prevalent, and so deeply ingrained into the American way of life that it is readily accepted as normal. But Yakini will reveal some of the effects it has had on Black citizens.
