Inspired by a real bear cub seen on explore.org's livecam, How Velcro Got His Name is about a bear cub that learns how to survive in the Alaskan wilderness and earns his place in the world. As Velcro gains the skills to survive in the Alaskan wilderness with help from his Mama and Otis, a gigantic brown bear, he teaches us what it takes to face our fears and our detractors head-on.




The book explores elements of animal behavior, natural habitat, wildlife conservation, and the environment.




Explore.org is a philanthropic multimedia company with a mission of connecting people back to nature and championing the selfless acts of others. From midsummer until early October explore.org partners with Katmai National Park to create a portal into the vast and pristine wilderness of Brooks Falls, Alaska and the dynamic ecosystems that exist there.
