Lydia Harte's mother was killed in a traffic accident when her Mercedes ran off the edge of a cliff. Even though the police have determined that the cause of her mother's death was careless driving, Lydia believes her mother was murdered by her stepfather, a known gangster. When Lydia graduates from college, she joins the LAPD in an attempt to prove that her mother's death was no accident. Two weeks after graduating from the Police Academy, Lydia and her partner are shot while investigating a burglary call at a warehouse and are left for dead. Bitter over her injuries, Lydia returns to work with a renewed determination to find out why her mother was killed only to learn that she has made enemies with a clique of officers who believe she is responsible for the death of her partner and will do anything to force her off the job. But Lydia is determined to avenge her mother's death, and she doesn't care how far she steps outside the law while doing it.
