From the cold depths of Siberia in a WWII labor camp to the suburbs of modern day America, follow the stories of two young women generations apart, but connected by love.




Katie's beloved grandmother, the one who comforted her and wiped away every tear, has died. Without Babchi to care for and guide her, Katie feels alone. Neither her job nor her friends can fill the void that Babchi's death has left. She doesn't know how to move on, yet the world seems to be pushing her to do so.




Meanwhile, decades earlier Babchi's life was in upheaval as Poland was split between Germany and Russia in WWII. Taken from their forest home, the family is transported to a Siberian labor camp and sentenced to years of hard labor. The spirited teenage girl struggles to keep her family alive during the hard winters where there is little warmth or food. When an opportunity to escape presents itself will she be brave enough to leave?




A story told in two voices, we follow Katie through her journey of grief parallel to her own Babchi's journey as a prisoner in a WWII Siberian labor camp. Follow both girls as they find hope in an uncertain future.
