Scotty Butterfield is a recluse. A college dropout clinging to a dead-end job and a run-down sublet in New York City, where he lives with his cat.




The country's in chaos, mired in a deep depression, and Scotty's bleak fortunes grow worse when he begins to receive cryptic emails from someone calling himself a "Messenger of the Lord." Warnings of imminent death and destruction in the city. An obvious scam.




Yet the predictions bear out.




Horrified, Scotty fears he's caught up in some terrorist plot. Only to realize, the disasters are caused by uncontrollable forces of nature, impossible to foresee or stage. Acts of God-just as the Messenger claims.
