Publisher Marketing: In an era when young ladies are supposed to be demure and do girlish things, Sophie Cobarne breaks all the rules. When Joshua Norbery and Charlie, her brother, declare their intention to join the army, she determines to go with them and follow the drum. She challenges them at every turn, to prove her mettle. What begins as a special friendship between the two lads becomes a recipe for misunderstandings. They grow up, as young men do, thinking that Sophie, on their return from the Grand Tour will be the innocent sister, Charlie imagines he left behind. They, on the other hand, have a wonderful time on their travels. See sights to amaze them, and have experiences that they would never dream of relating to a female. In this age, women are delicate creatures, brought up to think that gentlemen know best, and given sufficient education to prepare them for the time when they will marry - a goal to which every girl is thought to aspire. They love to shop for fancy clothes and share an ambition to be presented at Court, go to Almack's Assembly Rooms and join the Marriage Mart in their search for a wealthy suitor - the more illustrious the better. Sophie, however, is one of the few who does not subscribe to the norm. She despises the feeble-minded creatures who ride sedately, using a side-saddle. She is a hard rider to hounds, who takes her fences with the menfolk, and has the ambition to own a high-perch phaeton. She also has another objective... Unbeknown to her, Sophie has a rival with an identical goal, which only one of them can achieve...
