'The Autumn Years' concludes the story of Maureen's life living in Walthamstow, she has become a Grandmother to Daniel who was the inspiration behind her memoirs.



'Anxious to find out if her daughter-in-law Nikki had yet given birth, Maureen drove to Whipps Cross Hospital Maternity Unit. She was shown into a side ward, thinking that the baby had yet to be born upon opening the door she was surprised to see her youngest son Trevor sitting with the baby in his arms. Trevor told her they had had a little boy and were going to call him Daniel. Trevor handed the precious bundle to Maureen and as she gazed at this tiny baby she felt an overwhelming love for him. Daniel James Shanks was born on 29 September 2002 weighing just 6lbs 4oz. At long last Maureen's dream had come true and she was now a grandmother'.
