The Constitution of the USA was signed in Philadelphia on 17 September 1787 ratified in 1788 and was put into effect in 1789. It has been amended twenty-seven times. It is the first modern constitution and in addition it is the only one still in force. The short-lived French Constitution of 1791 was the first written constitution in France, created after the collapse of the absolute monarchy of the Ancien Régime.
