Tears of an Exile, a book defending life and freedom, rings true because of its humanistic content. It is the moving story of a young man's battle to survive in the midst of oppressive times experienced by Iranian people - including an account of his escape and exile. Born in Tehran in 1970, Farshad experienced the bitter taste of political intolerance, solitude, and exile from a veryyoung age. The book is a testimony of the profound yearning for freedom. It is also a confirmation of a fundamental truth: No power, even the most tyrannical or relentless that could exist, is enough to prevent a human being from dreaming and pursuing freedom - even at the cost of risking his/her own life. Farshad, despite his youth, has already traveled a long way marked by suffering and trials. He has a biography rich in life experiences and sacrifices. This accumulation of experiences is typical of old warriors and sailors afterundertaking many journeys. Even though the author experienced many troubles, he did not lose his humanity and faith. In fact, everything that he has gone through has only strengthened the sense of his own existence. As he says: "Life conveys clarifying knowledge, and at the same time, provides self-comprehension - besides the awakening of a profound and vivifying impulse in the human being that induces one to discover and intensify the frontier of one's intellectual and spiritual power, leading towards a morehappy and balanced life." Tears of an Exile is a historical affirmation of hope and the capacity of man's resistance, written with love.
