In Underrated; Every Light Needs Darkness, Kiana pulls back layers about what it was like growing up on the Northside of Chicago. Her childhood traumas, deaths, and betrayals made basketball her fortitude. Johnson brings forth the issue of reoccurring pride and not being able to overcome her horribly entrenched attitude. However, she was able to reconstruct her life after going on a spiritual journey after losing a lover at the ripe age of 20.
