After Volume I, The Early Years, we move on to the next "chapter" in mom's life. After some apparently short - term relationships, she met our father, Kenneth Ellsworth Volkmer - Ken - fell in love, married, only to see him get drafted back into the Army Air Corp after already having served from approximately 1939 to 1941 as a glider pilot, and being honorably discharged. He was sent to the Philippines and New Guiana where he worked as a cryptographer. Her writings during this period reflect the broad range of emotions she felt during this dark time in world history. Not all of those memories were bad. You will also find pleasant recollections of growing up in a small Midwestern town - Columbus Grove, Ohio. The images she paints with her words re-create clear memories for many who long for those times.
