Having set out to ascertain the truth of rumors concerning the death of King Overlord, Maverick and his friend Lyla now find themselves in the port city of Kings Harbor. Arrested and preparing to face a hostile Harbormaster, Maverick fears there are more powerful forces at work against them than a simple mayor struggling to determine where to place his allegiance. Meanwhile elsewhere in the kingdom the Knight Swift desperately searches for the assassin known only as the 'The Ferret' who he believes is responsible for mass deaths at Kings Castle.
