After Christina Barrett's grandmother died, she felt her world fall out from under her. Once an accomplished musician on the pianoforte, she now finds the music she longs to play is lost to her. Fletcher Ellington, the Duke of Everly, has just returned from a year long trip on the Continent. The endless society parties and his mother's insistence that he marry have him longing for an escape. When he is attacked and badly wounded after a night of gambling, he finds himself on Christina's doorstep. She helps to nurse Fletcher back to health, and the two quickly find themselves falling for each other. But all is not as happy as it seems. When Christina finds out who Fletcher truly is, she immediately finds herself thrust into what she views as an impossible decision.
