When an accident turns Troy Delhomme's life upside down, he doesn't want to admit he's losing his grip. His sister Frances is there to support him, as is the mysterious Alexander Summers, but there's only so much they can do. Coming to terms with being a teenage amputee is just one of many challenges for Troy, some of which have been lurking much longer. Set in small-town Alabama against the backdrop of the 2008 presidential election, this coming-of-age-tale blends the fantastic with the ordinary to paint an intimate picture of the adventures of everyday life. Troy learns to navigate life and love, family and friends, truth and lies, and the struggle to create his own identity despite the fact that everyone seems to want to choose one for him. When it comes down to it, Troy has to decide how to look at his past and shape his future, and he must do so single-handedly.
