Three-year-old Lorilee's mommy and daddy come to Leitchfield, Kentucky from Philadelphia for her mommy's high school class reunion. On the way home from her birthday party, her parents are killed in a car accident. Just after rescuers get her out of the mangled car, it explodes leaving no clue as to Lorilee's identity. She is sent to an institution for homeless children. On a field trip from the Home, Lorilee wanders off and becomes lost. She is presumed dead, but her adventures are just beginning. She finds a new home and a new identity but her happiness is short-lived. Because, eventually, her old life catches up with her resulting in a battle for her affections and the Judge wants Lorilee to decide. Can they find a way to keep everybody happy? The chances seem slim to none.
