The Mzansi Boy
Sheunopa Chani
This story is set in the poverty-stricken suburbs of modern Cape Town, South Africa. It follows the life of teenager Robert Mazibuko, who lives only with his grandmother in an iron shack. In order to survive in the harsh environment, he and a group of boys have formed a gang led by well-known figure Zed - despite Robert's true passion for art. Upon notice of a new wealthy family in the city from Australia, they plan a risky heist during late night. Rob meets and befriends an unexpected person, who later becomes a larger part of his life than anticipated. Tragedy soon occurs, and he must count on her to have faith in him, as well as save the day.
