"Don't go in the Bull Pen", the first book in the" Adventures of a Caribbean Kid" book series, tells the story of Wes and his oversized pet bull "Red". The story charts the sequence of chaotic events which lead to "Red" needing to find a new home, along with the unique challenges that come with having a 700kg 2-year-old bull for a pet. The idea for the series came about as a result of the bedtime stories that I used to tell my sons who wanted to learn about what it was like growing up in a rural Jamaican community. These stories offered them an escape to another time and place and allowed me to relive parts of my childhood that I had all but forgotten over the years. I would often forget parts of the stories, so writing the series has allowed me to share these fascinating tales in detail to better capture their imagination and provide an insight into my childhood. "Don't go into the Bull Pen" introduces us to Wes and his family as we see how a young boy grows to understand the meaning of responsibility, consequences and community, and how single events can often be viewed from different perspectives. The book is brilliantly illustrated to depict each scene as they unfold to further enhance the reader's enjoyment of the story, making it suitable for both the young and the young at heart.
