In 1934, Ellie Peterson wants to marry her childhood sweetheart, Jack, and move far from her family's cattle ranch. Her plan becomes complicated when the wild range horses begin to disappear, sold to a slaughterhouse. Worse, Jack sees dollar signs when he looks at the wild horses. Ellie begins to realize Jack is not the person he presents himself to be.
Granddad hires Hawser as a new wrangler for the ranch, but Ellie doubts this stranger's motives. He never has much to say, and has a way about him that leaves her cold and Jack bristling.
Forced to choose between the wild horses and Jack, little does Ellie know a touch of magic directs her choice.
