This program was created in 2004 in an ESL (English as a Second Language) middle school classroom. Rachel Kenyata Armour was looking for a way to help 150 students learn how to write a five-paragraph essay in order to pass the state test. After reading hundreds of books on the subject of writing, she quickly realized that none of them actually explained step-by-step how to construct the essay. So, she started to create a unique writing system that would break down the entire essay into sentences, while teaching students how to incorporate literary devices, interesting vocabulary, and transitional phrases directly into the essay.
