Betony Lodge
Suzanne Rosenthal Shumway
Kerys Markham has plenty of reasons to be content: a new husband, a promising academic career, and, most of all, the opportunity to live in Dorset, England, the birthplace of her beloved Thomas Hardy. Once there, however, she falls under the influence of the building in which she lives, a converted Victorian lunatic asylum now called Betony Lodge. Her growing obsession with the history of the building takes control of her life, causing her to re-examine her assumptions about life and literature, about friendship and romance, and ultimately, about the thin line between sanity and insanity.
