This book is all about converting wastelands which have come up by large scale deforestation to accommodate urbanization, into arable lands to increase tree cover. A short history has been given about the progress of scientific forestry in India from its inception in 1874 to the present. A chapter has also been added on the type of wastelands that have come up and how the Government of India is dealing with them. Then suggestions have been made on how these wastelands can be made into botanical gardens which will be intellectual centres, and public gardens, parks etc for relaxation and entertainment of the general public in urban areas. This will also make up for the large scale deforestation and contribute towards increase in tree cover.
