Then he offers large funds through his investment consortium, in exchange for inside information. This action makes vast private profits for himself and his cronies. However, one of his "cronies," a widower named Rupert, persuades Julia that what she is doing may not be entirely legal. He offers help! His shady past does not emerge until later, but by then Julia is committed. The financial authorities suspect Perry of carrying out "suspicious transactions." Rupert is forced to become a mole, required to report back in due course to enable a prosecution. The Met police become involved.
