Musket for a King Todd Shryock
Musket for a King
Todd Shryock
In the spring of 1809, the winds of war sweep through Europe once more. Austria has declared war against the Emperor Napoleon of France, and his response is harsh and immediate. Armies are mobilized, and men are conscripted into the ranks to march forth and punish the Austrian attack. The French "Grande Armée" is filled not just with Frenchmen touting the spirit of the revolution, but commoners from many small allied nations that were overrun and wrested from the kings of Europe in the early years of war. The King of Wurttemberg has allied himself with Napoleon in hopes of riding the military genius' victories to greater territory and increased wealth, and promised the lives of his citizenry to build an army to assist with the campaign. Henri Muller was working as a hunter for the local lord when he suddenly finds himself promised to the local recruiter to fill a recruiting quota. Now, as a soldier in the 2nd Battalion of Light Infantry, Henri is far from home fighting for a king he does not know in a war he doesn't understand.
