Vol 6 of Remington's Old West series - Remington by Night Frederic Sackrider Remington (October 4, 1861 - December 26, 1909) was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in depictions of the Old American West, specifically concentrating on the last quarter of the 19th-century American West and images of cowboys, American Indians, and the U. S. Cavalry Remington's formal education in art was brief. Over the years, he learned from the school of hard knocks and public opinion. Frederic was in competition from many prominent artists especially Winslow Homer and his realistic renderings of the sea and common life view in rural settings. "Remington by Night" is taken from sample images of Remington's works in the Public Domain. They are not in any particular order. The exploration of how to improve representations of night -moonlight, firelight, and candlelight started about 1900s. Modern technological innovations, including flash photography and the advent of electricity, were all rapidly transforming the character of night back east and was slowly one of the many factors changing the character of Remington Old West. His increasing numbers of articles, and painting served to enhance his reputation as a truthful reporter of life on the frontier. Remington had reached the point where he thought cementing that popularity and turning fame into a constant supply of money for his family. He thought about the legacy he wanted to leave behind and being noted as a fine artist of the day was a goal.
