The Tennessee 11th Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Cheatham, Tennessee, in May, 1861. In July the regiment, with 880 men was ordered to East Tennessee to serve in the forces commanded by Brigadier General Felix K. Zollicoffer. They remained in this area until the fall of 1862, when they joined General Bragg's Army at Harrodsburg, Kentucky. The 11th continued throughout the war with the Army of Tennessee and surrendered in North Carolina.
