This outstanding postal history exhibit traces the growth and evolution of the class of mail known as printed matter and the special, lower postal rates the class enjoyed between the years 1777-1870. It shows the amazing continuity of the rate that with only minor adjustments, remained consistent for 100 years. The exhibit includes precursor examples of newspapers and the full range of printed matter and how they were handled by different post offices and expresses.
