The Reitze Family in Philadelphia
Kathryn Chambers Torpey
This family history documents the life of Christopher and Lucy (Devlin) Reitze, their children, and grandchildren. The first and second parts of the narrative describe what is known about the early history of Christopher Reitze in Hesse-Cassel and his decision to leave home. The third part documents the arrival of Christopher Reitze in America. The fourth and fifth parts provide information on the lives of Christopher Reitze and Lucy (Devlin) Reitze, his wife/widow. The sixth part provides a narrative profile of the lives of each of Christopher Reitze's children who survived infancy, Christopher, Jr., Elizabeth, Charles, John, and Josephine. The purpose of the document is to chronicle the sequence of major events in the life of the Reitze family; to bring the family back to life, albeit only momentarily; and to depict their fundamental character and outlook on life.
