Cliff Mogg
'Don't Quote Me' is a charming account of Cliff Mogg's 50 years as a reporter on several regional newspapers in the south-east of England. Cliff's career saw him chased from a caravan site by an armed traveller, come second best in a race with former Olympic 5,000-metre runner Chris Chataway, uncover the story of John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls-Royce, and attend a lunch where a drunken dustman embarrassed the Queen. Cliff started working in newspapers in the 1950s, a period when old-timers were quick to dismiss new technology (which at that time meant typewriters), and when finding a story meant building contacts within the local community, knocking on doors, and, on occasion, eavesdropping on conversations in local pubs and cafes. 'Don't Quote Me' tracks Cliff's life until 2007, when he filed his final story to end a career he described as "a joy."
