I view my memories as a vast collection of photographic images, many retaining clear images and brilliant colors; these are distinct reproductions of remembered events that, on demand, I display in vivid arrays in my mind. Others have also retained their images but colors are faded, shapes ghost-like, edges so tattered they will never fit into the complicated puzzle that is my life. I'm fearful that the movement of time is not the only reason they have become so damaged. I suspect that feelings of sadness and pain drifting out of my childhood are solely responsible for their distortion so, to discover their truth, these are the memories I've compared with those of my remaining siblings. There are darker and scarier pictures, more closely affecting my life and my family; these are the ones I keep under mental lock and key. I'm only brave enough to look into that dark place in my mind, whenever I need motivation to keep on...keeping on.
