A lone hiker finds a burnt out car in the middle of nowhere, no one inside, no footprints away from the vehicle and no signs of life. The respectable English couple - Mark and Lee - on a trip of a lifetime, have vanished into thin air, or seemingly so. Assumed dead or taken captive, Mark turns up later at a diner bloody but alive and well, the two guys that had been seen chasing them turn up dead in a shallow grave. The hunt is on to locate the pair before more people die, and Lee soon discovers she really doesn't know the man she married. Simon, Lee's son living in Austin, gets a visit from the FBI, assumes the worst and asks his long-time friend sheriff Randy Gold, for help. Written in British English and American English - depending on who's talking at the time - this story sees the hunt cover five States and spans the big pond, bringing friends together and uncovering ghosts better left dead.
