8 year old Jessica Newbold lives a charmed life with her doting parents, but everything changes when she befriends her next door neighbour; 8 year old Christopher Quinn, a neglected and abused boy. From the first moment she defends him from a school bully he is devoted to her, and soon trusts her enough to share his biggest pastime with her. She is surprised but fascinated by what Christopher enjoys doing, but by the time she realises that he is a cruel and controlling individual they are already in their teens and lives are at risk.
