A stirring, dramatic coming of age story for young adults set in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future. Born with only one arm, Prince Hal encounters discrimination, doubts, pity and mistrust growing up. Even so he distinguishes himself, harbors no resentments and wins the respect of his peers and the heart of a lovely young woman. On reaching maturity, the 16 year-old hero is told by his father the king that he cannot inherit the crown because of his deformity and handicap, even though he has repeatedly proven himself physically and intellectually fit to rule the realm. Experiencing betrayal, kidnapping and treachery, Hal nevertheless surmounts all obstacles, escapes from his captors and returns home to challenge the designated heir, his stepbrother, to a sword-fight that will decide the issue of kingship.
