The Tennessee 27th Infantry Regiment [also called 25th Regiment] was assembled at Camp Trenton, Tennessee, September 10, 1861 It fought at Shiloh, Munfordville, and Perryville and in May, 1862 assigned to General Maney's Brigade, Army of Tennessee. In December, 1862, it was consolidated with the 1st Volunteers. The 1st-27th Consolidated Regiment continued throughout the remainder of the war with the Army of Tennessee, including the Atlanta Campaign, Franklin and Nashville, and the Carolinas Campaign. Only a handful remained at the surrender in North Carolina. All of the companies except one changed company letters when the regiment was reorganized in May 1862.
