TIP GERMAN is a K. C. S. E revision book for German devised for students learning German as a foreign language in secondary schools in Kenya. The book is authored by a seasoned teacher of German as a foreign language who boasts of wide experience in the teaching and evaluation of German. The book focuses on German Paper 1 at the K. C. S. E which is composition writing and skills to scoop high marks in composition. In this book, the author tries to answer the question what a good composition is and how a composition can be made to be good. He examines the role German grammar plays in the writing of correct German compositions and tries to make it clear to the learners that German composition is ideally Grammar in use. The book begins with a discussion of the marking scheme for the German composition paper and highlights various marking points of serious importance. The author then discusses the compositions that are tested in German paper one that is official and friendly letter writing as well as creative writing which is often question number four. He also examines which mistakes are commonly committed by many learners and how best they can be corrected. He also goes ahead to give example paragraphs of how learners of various linguistic abilities tend to write and advises them how best they should write, each according to their ability. The author, Dominic Onsase who is also commonly known as Herr Onsase within the German fraternity in Kenya has taught German and especially German Grammar for a considerable time and garnered a lot of experience on which areas learners have the biggest weaknesses in Grammar and writing. Such areas are illustrated and briefly discussed just to show the learners how and when to apply them or avoid them. He finishes by giving a selection of numerous composition samples to each of the three areas commonly tested at K. C. S. E and gives a rough idea on how marks would be awarded to such compositions. The composition samples are deemed best with few to very few mistakes and marks awarded are between 16 and 19.
