This is what 22 year-old Katie Parsons tells the reader in the opening paragraph of the novel. Trout River, Newfoundland is, and always has been her home, and the large, gregarious Parsons clan, her family. But what is the definition of "home?" And what does "family" really mean? When Katie discovers this might not be who she really is, and that Trout River and the only family she has ever known might not actually belong to her at all, she sets out on a quest to define them both.
