Seventeen-year-old Ash Evans is a high school wallflower from the poorer side of Amesbury, Massachusetts. When he isn't dodging his abusive aunt or being bullied at school, he's lost in the wonder of books or spending time in nature, daydreaming. That is, until nature thrusts itself upon him, stealing everything in the process. After a street-fight leaves him bloodied and unconscious, Ash finds himself in the fires of Hell on earth, armed with power he must learn to identify and control. Scared and confused, with no family left to run to, he quickly becomes his own worst enemy as he is flung from city streets to halfway houses-even a highly secure government facility. Challenges soon arrive with the signatures of God, death, and time itself, as the young man struggles to make sense of what it means to be human. Firelight may be the only path to salvation. But every flame creates a shadow.
