The Great Camping Trip is a story where Derek and Little Jamie learn how to learn from the experiences of others, so that hard lessons may be learned without hard experiences. As both families go on a camping trip to the Great Oaks Park, Derek's father tells them a campfire story about the time he was lost in the forest. In his story he teaches the children about marking their way, so that they can find their way back if they ever were lost. They learn lessons of being prepared and cleaning up after themselves.
