Through the first half of the twentieth century, the wealthy, Southern elite basked in the glory of the Victorian Age as if English landed nobility. But like a lace doily over bloody, maroon velvet, elegant and gracious lifestyles masked sinister rivalries among ruthless oligarchs. Society looked away and time passed by. Invasive industrial shadows passed through the landscape corroding the cultural stability of the agricultural society. By mid-century, the alien invasion gripped the old order strangling it in an economic struggle to the death. The Victorian world was but a quaint memory for most in small Southern towns by 1970. But two forgotten matriarchs of the old order still battled for dominance after fifty years. Each hid secrets that kept them frozen in the past. Locked in a standoff they faced the Grim Reaper until Darius, Myrtle, and Alex appear in the midst of simmering turmoil and a fresh death. This is the story of one tragedy on top of another.
