Anna Keeye
John Emmaus
Librarian Anna Keeye has a son-in-law writing a sci-fi yarn about Mars, entitled "May Contain Nuts". He presents a rather different Mars from what NASA and our astronomers lead us to believe. On holiday in Dorset, in Thomas Hardy country, Anna and family have an intrusive phone caller to combat, with the aid of a scatty inventor. Anna's vicar husband Donkey, following a physical accident and a mental breakdown, has retreated into a Noah's Ark type commune in Surrey. She is trying to extract him. Meanwhile in Dorset, another vicar, Lancelot, besotted by Anna from college library days, and one of Don's best friends, is experiencing considerable confusion and temptation when she goes to him for help. But it is the zoo-like commune, led by ex-Hollywood film star Timon Tyde, around which the solutions revolve. It is only the fictitious emigrants to Mars who don't come out of things so well.
