This is a series of stories about the U. S. Forest Service firefighting from the 1970's through the early 1990's. It follows Aidan, a young man who progressed through often tense and trying situations in a tough forest firefighting industry. The stories follow a number of people who passed through Aidans life as district crew firefighter and through the life of a hotshot firefighter. It describes life lessons learned through his experiences and through the people that he knew.
