On July 29, 1990, the hundredth anniversary of Vincent van Gogh's death, Anna Alissio died for nine minutes before being brought back to life. Throughout her life, she draws comparisons between her life and van Gogh's. As a child, Anna was involved in a near-fatal car accident. With her life on the brink, tough decisions must be made - and accepted. Years later, she learns that, due to her parents' religious beliefs, the courts intervened and forced her to have a blood transfusion. Upon learning that her parents were willing to end her life over their beliefs, Anna's life is forever altered.
