Zane Grey is considered by many as world's greatest writer of Western romance novels. His stories told epic love stories of young women and men in the Old West seeking romance while facing barriers of man and nature that seem impossible to overcome. His great novel, Riders of the Purple Sage, is included in the Library of Congress' listing of "books that most shaped America." Until his death in 1939, Grey's works were reported only outsold by the Bible and perhaps the McGuffey Readers.
