The Animated Tea Service Richard Andre
The Animated Tea Service
Richard Andre
A Victorian fairy tale about two children who speculate about whether dishes, spoons, teacups, teapots and cutlery come to life when no one is watching. As they begin to think about the shapes of various tea ware, they become creative with ideas about how they could use tea things to make a "jolly fellow". The tea kettle over the fire, sang a song of "Hubble-ey, Bubble-ey" as bedtime grew near. All was quiet except the cuckoo-clock but finally sleep set in. Thinking about the story of the dishes and spoons, they wonder if the dishes and spoons will be running around after twelve o'clock. Jennifer Petersen's annotations bring Victorian times to modern explanations while Richard Andre's illustrations bring the story to life. Mr. Andre has a sense of what children enjoy and each illustration is a story in itself. A good book for grandchildren and for reading aloud - it's suitable for all ages.
