Somehow Standing is a collection of essays written by Naomi Kathryn Lu, a Chinese American author. Afflicted by mental illness beginning at the age of 16, Lu's world was turned upside down. Unable to attend school, work, and even leave her home normally, she struggled to find purpose and a reason to continue living. Her book is an attempt to allow others to see what one individual's experience with mental illness looks like. Through challenges and triumphs, Lu takes the reader along on an in depth look into her own mind, and hopes that her story will create greater empathy and compassion for those suffering from mental illness.
