This book contains fundamental studies fundamental mechanical (elastic, thermal, electrical, magnetic, biological, etc.) properties of systems at the nano- and micrometer scale. Nano-and Micromechanics have emerged on the crossroads of classical and non-classical mechanics, solid-state physics, statistical mechanics, materials science, quantum chemistry among others. In this sense they provide a scientific foundation of nano-and other advanced technologies. As a fundamental science, they are based on general mechanics principles and specific principles arising from the smallness of physical sizes of the object of study or research. The book contains the most exciting contributions to the mini- symposium "Nano- and Micromechanics" at the 6th International Conference Nonlinear Mechanics held in Shanghai (P. R. China) in August 2013.
